New USABat-certified models, more big-barrel options for senior youth, available now
RENTON, Wash. (Sept. 1, 2017) – Axe Bat today announced its first baseball and softball bats for the 2018 season, including four models certified for USA Baseball’s new youth-bat performance standard that takes effect next year.
Also included is an expanded selection of senior-youth baseball bats, Axe Bat’s first junior big-barrel bat for coach pitch, and an upgraded one-piece bat for fastpitch.
Today marks the first day customers can purchase directly from manufacturers bats certified for the new USABat standard, which mandates a more wood-like performance for youth baseball bats. Most national member organizations of USA Baseball – including Little League Baseball, Babe Ruth/Cal Ripken Baseball, and PONY Baseball – will be adopting the standard, effective Jan. 1, 2018.
Notably, USSSA has opted not to follow suit and will continue to allow bats certified for the existing 1.15 Bat Performance Factor (BPF) standard next year.
USA BASEBALL (USABAT)
Axe Bat’s initial USABat models are designed for maximum power, durability, and control. The new power lineup showcases Axe Bat’s technology advantage from handle to end cap, and includes both one- and two-piece bats constructed with premium Mantic™ Alloy for massive, high-performing barrels that never need to be rotated.
Controlling that power comes easier with the patented Axe Handle, the only bat handle engineered to support the biomechanics of the swing. Designed to follow the natural contours of the wrist and palm, the Axe Handle provides a more stable grip than any conventional round knob and gives players greater barrel control with maximum bat speed – a benefit that can help players transition more easily to the new bat-performance standard.
Additional barrel control comes from Axe Bat’s angled HyperWhip™ End Cap, which improves balance by eliminating unnecessary weight from the non-hitting side of the barrel.
To reduce vibration and sting on its power lineup, Axe Bat offers Endogrid™, a shock-absorbing technology built into the handle.
The following 2018 Axe Bats are certified and come stamped with the required USABat mark, making them permissible for play in all leagues that are adopting the new standard next year. All are available for purchase today at www.axebat.com.
- Element L139F (-8): One-piece Mantic Alloy, HyperWhip Composite Cap, Endogrid.
- Origin L135F (-8): One-piece LP1 Alloy, HyperWhip Composite Cap.
- Elite L134F (-5): Two-piece hybrid, Mantic Alloy barrel, flex-tuned composite handle, HyperWhip End Cap, Endogrid.
- Hero Tee Ball L167F (-11): One-piece LP Alloy, for tee ball only.
USSSA (1.15 BPF)
Axe Bat’s new lineup also features its deepest selection ever of big-barrel bats for senior-youth players. Five new models debut for USSSA players in 2018, including four with 2-3/4” barrels; all conform to the 1.15 BPF standard.
In bolstering its line, Axe Bat added models at the top and bottom. Leading the way is the new Avenge L148F (-10), a balanced, two-piece composite bat that stands out as the lightest-swinging and largest barrel Axe Bat has ever offered in the category.
For players moving from tee ball to coach pitch, meanwhile, Axe Bat added the Origin L165F (-10) – the company’s first junior big-barrel bat – made from durable LP1 Alloy and featuring a HyperWhip End Cap for improved balance and a faster swing.
The following Axe Bats are new for 2018 and come stamped with the 1.15 BPF mark for play in USSSA. All are available for purchase today at www.axebat.com.

Axe Bat’s growing popularity among fastpitch players led to an additional bat being offered for 2018. New for the season is the Element L151F (-12), an upgraded one-piece that fills the middle ground between the entry-level Danielle Lawrie L136 and the high-end, two-piece composite Avenge L150.
Offered in lengths ranging from 28” to 34”, the Element L151F is constructed from premium Mantic Alloy and comes with Axe Bat’s signature technologies, Endogrid and HyperWhip End Cap.
